Preserving History, Building the Future: Mountain Painting Company at the Jenkins Estate

Nestled on the picturesque northwest slope of Cooper Mountain, the Jenkins Estate has long been a beacon of historical charm and cultural significance in the Tualatin Valley. This 68-acre property, purchased by the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District in 1975, is a treasure trove of early 20th-century elegance, featuring sprawling English gardens, historic buildings, and breathtaking views. Today, Mountain Painting Company is honored to contribute to the ongoing restoration and preservation of this extraordinary landmark, a project slated for completion in 2025.
A Legacy of Elegance
Originally constructed between 1912 and 1915, the Jenkins Estate was envisioned as a serene retreat by Belle Ainsworth Jenkins and her husband, Ralph Jenkins. Modeled after an English hunting lodge, the seven-bedroom main house boasts beamed ceilings, solid maple hardwood floors, ornate light fixtures, and massive stone fireplaces. The estate also includes a greenhouse, ornamental pool, carriage house, stable, and a covered riding arena—each a testament to the genteel country lifestyle of its era. The estate's lush gardens, designed by the gardener for Canada’s prime minister, feature unique specimen trees and shrubs imported from around the world, making the grounds a living work of art.
A Historical Treasure in Need of Care
By the time the Park District acquired the Jenkins Estate, the property had fallen into disrepair. Over the decades, efforts have been made to restore its former grandeur, transforming the estate into a cherished venue for weddings, business meetings, seminars, and community events. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Jenkins Estate serves as a vital cultural and recreational hub for the region.
